Jialan Chen 2024 Coclea Thucea "Fibonacci" Homage to Andrea Tacchi
Full review video coming sometime post Thanksgiving here in the States, but in the meantime, here is a “first look” from a livestream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP0QzeIVOm4
This guitar is a particularly delightful example of a “homage” instrument, which I’m not always a fan of.
Let me explain-
Jialan Chen is a Chinese luthier who studied/apprenticed with the esteemed Italian luthier Andrea Tacchi, who makes some of the most sought after traditional instruments in the world. Why are they sought after? Well, they are instruments where no detail is too small for refinement. Both in aesthetics and sound. Sonically, they are known for having an extremely colorful pallete, incredible sustain, and perhaps most intriguingly, a ton of volume.
So moving on - often when you find “hommage” instruments like these - it’s a half baked reproduction where lots of corners are cut, and the sound often doesn’t resemble the originals in the slightest.
That is not the case here.
One of my favorite instruments I’ve -ever- played was a “Coclea Thucea” model of Andrea Tacchi, which absolutely floored me, for the characteristics I mentioned above, plus a sensitivity that is nearly unparalleled by any other instruments.
So how does this guitar compare? It’s pretty darn close, and for a small fraction of the price of a what a Tacchi Coclea Thucea might cost you if one ever becomes available.
Something that strikes me about this guitar is just how easy it is to produce a beautiful, natural round sound that fills the room. That’s a quality that it shares with one of my favorite guitars. It's also extremely easy to play with the rounded neck. raised fingerboard and low action. On top of that, it's hardly been played. It was made this year, and the new owner will be very happy to get to know the guitar, and hear it become its full potential.
Selling this one for a client of mine at a price that is lower than anywhere else you’ll find online! And it’s in near-perfect condition.
Specs:
-Soundboard: Spruce/Cedar
-Back and Sides: Wenge
-Scale: 650mm
-Raised Fingerboard
