A extremely rare and spectacular guitar made by the Rene Lacote in the 1820’s. For those that don’t know, these are the very guitars that Fernando Sor, Ferdinando Carulli, Dionisio Aguado, Napoleon Coste, and so many others played on professionally. This was their instrument of choice.

This Lacote is one of the most special instrument’s I’ve come across. What surprises me about this instrument is just how alive it is, and just how much volume comes out of this tiny guitar! Also, the first string is like a dream - it makes you much less afraid of open notes. They are warm, sweet, and special.

The headstock, neck, back, sides and top are all original. Likely at some point the fingerboard was replaced professionally (which is normal for these guitars of this age). In 1853 (as seen on the secondary label seen in the photos) it was repaired as well. Of course, as far as the extent- who knows! Most guitars need some attention after 30 years, much less nearly 200!

You can see the “Lacote a Paris” written on the headstock which Lacote did in this period. You can see some worn off, which is charming to me, because it’s obvious that no one has “filled it in” making it unoriginal.

The bridge on this guitar is quite rare. If you look through photos of Lacote’s enough, you’ll find a couple others with this bridge, one of them being one of the most prized and decorated Lacotes. See link here

On top of the amazing condition, the guitar is very very playable with a low action. If the 1st string is driven hard, it buzzes a little, but this could be fixed with a simple nut/saddle adjustment.

I’ve owned this guitar for a year or two now and hoped that I would always keep it. That being said, I think I’ve enjoyed my time with this guitar, happy to have gotten to know it, and now it’s time to let it go!

These guitars are exceedingly rare, and so few remain, especially in this fantastic shape. I hate to say it, but the replicas I’ve tried, just do not compare.

Whether or not you are interested in purchasing, I hope you enjoy the photos and soon to come videos (there’s a short clip on one of my youtube videos (see here).
